Presented just before Baselworld kicked off we already presented some new Mille Miglia Models. Apart from the colourful models we already showed earlier we also got to see the new Chopard Mille Miglia 2018 Race Edition. Which looks quite similar but comes in a more exclusive limited edition with an inverted panda dial and stunning finish. Let’s have a closer look.
Mille Miglia 2018 Race Edition
It all began in 1988 when Chopard became partner and official timekeeper of the famous Mille Miglia classic car rally. For 30 years now, they have been at the very heart of the race. To celebrate this important landmark, Chopard has created a special numbered and COSC-certified Mille Miglia 2018 Race Edition. Limited to 1,000 pieces in steel, and just 100 pieces in a version combined with 18-carat rose gold.
The dashboard-inspired engine-turned dial features the inverted panda look with it’s contrasting Azure silver-toned sub-dials. Just below the Chopard name there is the red Mille Miglia logo at 12 o’clock and if features a small date between 4 and 5 o’clock. For better legibility the hands have been filled with Super-LumiNova.
Inspired by historic cars
This chronograph watch shows various links with the historical race cars it is linked with. Subtle details have been incorporated into the design. When you have a closer look at the dial you will discover the circular, also known as engine-turned, finish. Something that is also used for the decoration of movements nowadays but back in time it was found on the dashboard of cars in the 30’s. The analogies continue with a notched crown resembling a petrol-tank cap and pushers which are shaped like engine pistons.
On the inside of the Mille Miglia 2018 Race Edition a COSC chronometer-certified calibre is the beating heart. Keeping time within a variation ranging from minus four to plus four seconds per day. When fully wound it will continue running for 42-hours when put aside. Something you don’t have to worry about when on the wrist as the movement is self-winding. Visible trough the open caseback which shows the 30th anniversary for the Mille Miglia. On the lower side you will find the limited edition number of the watch.
Both models look great on the wrist and the design and size work well. This watch ticks all the boxes when it comes to a chronograph. In steel it’s slightly more affordable compared to the coloured Mille Miglia editions that have also been presented just before Baselworld.
