Rudiger Albers is now for 32 years working in the watch retail business in NYC. In my opinion there is no one else like him around. I had breakfast with Rudi. We talked about watches and the new Wempe-Rolex store at 5th Avenue.
Rudi is charismatic; he is tough and an excellent businessman. After all the years he understands his business to well. Running a watch store on 5th Avenue means that some million of potential clients pass by every year. Now Wempe, together with Rolex, just opened a wonderful store located at 5th Avenue in the Rolex-Building. So if you think Rolex is running the business, you are wrong. It’s Wempe doing it. When Rudi heard that the store located in the Rolex-Building was available, he did not hesitate a second and contacted Rolex USA. The deal was quickly done and today Rudi can be proud of the job he has done. The Rolex-store reflects all the experience Rudi has collected for the last 32 years.
But not only the new Rolex-store is worth seeing it, also the Wempe-store just opposite the road located on ground floor of The Peninsula Hotel. A selection of the very best watch brands attracts locals and tourists.
It is the way how the Wempe Company is running the business all over the world that makes the difference. It is not just about selling, it is also about educating and teaching customers, treating them like they expect to be treated and over the years it is about an excellent good relationships that Rudi and his team was able to established to many, many customers.
Take some time and enjoy the interview I recorded this morning with Rudiger Albers, President of Wempe USA. At the end of the interview I also asked Rudi: What is your favorite restaurant in NYC? Curious? Good!
