“Apple flirts with the Swiss Watch Industry”, writes the renowned Swiss newspaper HANDELSZEITUNG.

Yesterday one could read in the Swiss newspaper that Apple tries to poach employees from Swiss watch manufacturers and that Apple wants the quality seal Swiss Made for its iWatch.

In brief this is the content of the HANDELSZEITUNG article shown here below:

Apple seems to work under high pressure to present the worlds first real intelligent watch, the iWatch.

Hublot President Jean-Claude Biver is quoted: “Apple got in contact with several Swiss manufacturers. Apple tries to place orders with the Swiss watch supplier industry. One I know personally”, Biver is quoted. “But not only this”, Biver is again quoted: “Apple has contacted some of my employees, I saw these emails personally. But none of my employees has left Hublot”.

The Swiss watch industry now believes that Apple wants the quality seal Swiss made for its iWatch

This is also interesting: Apple did contact Hublot to get its Magic Gold, that´s so hard that you can not scratch it, for the production of the new iPhone 5S, but Hublot refused to collaborate with Apple.

The Swatch Group is less talkative; a spokes woman from Swatch Group just confirms that the Group is in contact with almost all the smartphone producers through the companies EM Microelectronics and Renata.

  • I do not blame Apple for wanting the “Swiss made seal” only the best will do #iWatch by Swiss

  • It just does not make sense, and to me, and I bet that none of the good brands in Switzerland will want to cooperate with Apple. Swiss watch making is primarily NOT about electronics.

  • While I can imagine that Apple would want to poach some experienced Swiss people, esp regarding marketing and some know how, I am not sure that “Swiss Made” would be a big consideration for Apple or its customers. Also, they are building a sapphire plant in the USA.

    • Swatch is the ideal partner for Apple to develop, manufacture and sell the iWatch. The watch should be called iSwatch. This would be a solution with the best of both worlds… No one could do it better…
