One watch that needs no introduction for sure is the Audemars Piguet Royal Oak. Ever since it was launched in the 70’s this model has been around with it’s classic design. Only minor changes have been made through the years. Now it’s time for a special edition of the 39mm ultra-thin version. Let’s have a look at the Audemars Piguet Royal Oak JUMBO Extra-Thin.
Audemars Piguet Royal Oak JUMBO Extra-Thin
At first glance you will wonder what the differences are with the Royal Oak but upon closer inspection you will notice the details. This watch is actually made from different metals. Where the case is made out of titanium, the fully polished bezel is comes in platinum. This is what you will notice right away as we all know the Royal Oak with it’s brushed bezel. Something to get used to for sure. Platinum is also used for the polished links in the titanium bracelet. Besides that that it comes with a deep bleu smoke dial which goes lighter towards the center. Quite stunning I must say. The case comes in a modest 39mm which only measures 8.1mm in thickness. Quite the sleek presentation as you can expect.
Another great detail is the configuration of the dial. As you expect from AP it comes in a fine ‘petite tapisserie; which gives you endless details when you look at it from up close. One great thing they did with this model is the applied logo at the bottom of the dial which is just like the original model. Apart from the new logo both models are very similar especially when you consider the roughly 45 years in-between production dates. On the newer model the date is less in your face due to the inverted print of white text over a date disc that matches with the dial colour. Personally I appreciate the

Under the radar
Compared to the standard Royal Oak Extra-thin this watch sure stands out but most probably won’t notice the difference at a distance. So you can wear your extra special Royal Oak under the radar if that would be possible to begin with. Where the steel extra-thin has a price-tag of around 18K Euro. The titanium and platinum configuration will cost you roughly double of that. But in return you do get a stunning classic watch in a unique configuration.
