Baselworld 2013 … The Patek Philippe novelties

Here come the Patek Philippe novelties. I have been able to take my own pictures of the major novelties. I do now invite you to discover them …

I know these are many pictures and some look similar, but in the end they are not the same ones. Please do always enlarge the pictures so you can discover all the details.

Patek Philippe this year very much concentrated on small details. You will discover not so many new movements (but still at the end one amazing new one) and complications but instead a lot of work that has been done with the cases and dials.

Just as one example have a close look at the wonderful Calatrava Ref. 5227 and its just stunning case. The second bottom that protects the back of the watch is so thin that you hardly see it. Thierry Stern told me today, that when he presented this novelty to his father Philippe Stern he did not see it at a first glance. Philippe Stern asked his son: Where is the novelty? This is an ordinary Calatrava.

The Ref. 5207 Annual Calendar is now available rose gold with an opaline white or black lacquered dial

The Ref. 5960 Annual Calendar Chronograph is now endowed with an opaline black dial and a tone-in-tone mono counter. First you see a picture of the already existing version with a white dial …

The new Ref. 5170 now comes in a new white-gold version with a silvery-white dial and Breguet numerals …First you see the new version and then the “old” one …

The Ref. 5298 Calatrava men´s wristwatch in a platinum case with baguette diamonds on the bezel. What a dress watch!!!

The Nautilus Chronograph Ref. 5980/1 is now available in trendy bicolor and in a rose gold version with a rose gold bracelet.

Ref. 5200 Gondolo 8 Days, Day & Date Indication

Energy for more than a week

Patek Philippe’s new Ref. 5200 Gondolo 8 Days, Day & Date Indication wristwatch for men unites coveted features such as a power reserve of more than one week, an anatomically contoured, rectangular Art Deco case, and a newly developed, manually wound form movement with innovative silicon components. The instantaneously switching calendar with a date by hand and an aperture for the day of the week is another exclusive asset. Both indications advance simultaneously at midnight within 3 milliseconds. The new caliber 28-20 REC 8J PS IRM C J form movement was inspired by the Ref. 5100 “10-Day” first presented in the year 2000. The integrated twin mainspring barrel is guaranteed to deliver power for 192 hours. Its great energy efficiency is due not least to the patented escapement with a Spiromax® balance spring and a Pulsomax® lever and escape wheel. These extremely lightweight components are virtually friction-free. When viewed through the anatomically curved display back, these high-tech components are easy to identify by their purple-blue shimmer. The innovative marathon runner is accommodated in a cambered, rectangular white-gold case with two-tiered flanks as a tribute to the true Art Deco style. The dial features an 8-day power- reserve display in the upper half as well as the date by hand, the large day-of-week aperture, and the subsidiary seconds dial in the bottom half. It is available in sunburst blue and silvery white versions. With its rectangular case and matching form movement, the Ref. 5200 Gondolo 8 Days, Day & Date Indication clearly shows that the inner life of a watch and its outward appearance are indeed inseparable.
