Baselworld 2014: Nomos presents the Nomos Metro, the Nomos escapement called Swing System and the Ahoi Atlantik

Nomos Metro

Nomos invested 11,4 Million Euro to develop its own “Swing System” with a tempered blue balance-spring. It debuts in the beautiful Nomos Metro…

Guys get this! Nomos, the little manufacturer in Glashütte, made what others just dream about. Nomos developed its own escapement and is now fully independent from the deliveries of Swatch Group Nivarox.

Nomos invested five years of time and 11,4 Million Euro (!) to develop its own anchor, anchor-wheel and balance-spring. The spring was developed together with Carl Haas in Germany, a specialist in balance-springs. Nomos also worked together with the university of Dresden to do all the necessary calculations in-house.

The new NomosSwing System” will be integrated step by step in all of Nomos’ calibres. The prices of all the watches are not affected, there will be NO price rise due to the new “Swing System”. The new Nomos Metro will be sold for only 2600 Euro.

The new calibres equipped with the new Nomos escapement “Swing System” will be called “DUW” (Deutsche Uhrenwerke), so whenever you see a Nomos calibre named “DUW” it will have the Nomos escapement.

I will present you more facts in the next days…

This is the new 37 mm Nomos Metro, with a power reserve indicator

  • Great product! I’m glad you covered this brand, Nomos recently caught my attention and I’ve been considering a Tangente lately. After reading about the “Swing System” I’m even more convinced about getting one.

Do you have an idea when they will be putting it in their Beta mov’t?

  • Love this brand. All in house great designs,
Sense of humour . Very original and a total class act
I will own one this year.

  • It was a great achievement of Nomos, which is a small brand, moreover, they make fabulous affordable watches.

Well done Nomos, just keep on creating affordable lovely wristwatches!

  • Too bad, for me at least, $3,500 USD is still above my means. I wish the more home made products would result in something south of 3K all in.

    • Buy a Seiko Dave. Even more “in house” than a Nomos and can be had for 50 bucks.

  • The question that pops into my mind is if Nomos can develop its own anchor, anchor-wheel and balance-spring and not raise prices, why can’t, or won’t, other manufacturer’s follow suit when they develop components or entire movements?

Other than the fact that they can, so they do, it’s never made sense.

If Nomos ever gets better distribution over here in the states, I can see one in my future, if for no other reason than I approve of their business practices. Though I do love their designs. ‘-)
