Baselworld 2014: The new Certina sports chronographs

Certina DS-2 Chronograph

Selling its watches in the price range from 300 to 1500 Euro Certina offers an impeccable quality and an attractive design. Please discover some of the 2014 novelties

The Swatch Group brand sells its timepieces at an average of 550 Euro to 60 % men and 40 % women. I estimate that Certina sells approximately 650.000 watches a year. Sports watches are clearly the domain of Certina, so I will only show you the new chronographs of the brand…

As you might know, only few quartz chronographs offer the precision of a chronometer. So the true power of timing comes alive through its measurable accuracy. The new Certina DS-2 Chronograph houses a Swiss-Made ETA Precidrive quartz movement with the accuracy to measure the 1/100th of a second. The 1/100th of a second is displayed in real time during first minute. Thereafter, to extend the battery life, the watch will only show the 1/100th of a second when you stop the chronograph. The new ETA-calibre operates at a chronometer-level accuracy of +/- 10-seconds per year. The Certina DS-2 Chronograph features a 12-hour, 30-minutes and 60-second counter and a date indication. This cutting-edge movement also offers the precision of a chronometer in a sporty and handsome timepiece available in a variety of models. Including this new green or yellow-detailed leather strap version with matching chronograph hands.

Certina has presented some attractive novelties, however it feels similar to Tissot. Can you explain how different they are from Tissot? FYI..I also own a Tissot PRS-516.

Certina is a very sympathic and innovative brand with very reasonable prices. The only thing I do not like about the design are the white dates on dark dials. Why not in den colour of the dial?

I like it! It’s affordable and attractive. I especially like the yellow stiching. That’s the upside.

The downside is that they only have authorized retailers in New York City and Las Vegas.

I’m a touchy feely shopper for the most part, unless i know the brand on that basis, so looks like I’m SOL for acquiring one of these.

Oh well. If I had lots of disposable income, I could jump on a plane and go see one. ‘-)

It is good that you also bring us some affordable yet interesting novelties. Elsewhere I had discovered the really quite interesting Victorinox INOX (sturdy as a G-Shock but with more class) and the Luminox SXC Space Expedition – themed watch. These two models show fresh thinking at the budget end of the market.
