I simply like these understated Type XX and Type XXI chronographs from Breguet. Only a connoisseur will identify it and know what it is. For the majority looking on your wrist the chronograph will look like any other. So in case you are looking for an ticking understatement for your wrist, this new Type XXI Ref. 3817 could be interesting for you…

The “old” calibre “584Q” has been technically updated with a silicon escapement and hairspring and is now called “584Q/2” and still operates a frequency of 4 Hz (= 28.800 A/h).

The indications, the basic look of the new Type XXI did not change!

Still the seconds and minutes are measured with two hands operating out of the center of the dial. The fly-back function is still there and also the 24 hour day-/night-indication at “3 o´clock”.

Just in case you don’t know what a fly-back-function does here is a quick explanation: The fly-back function returns the chronograph hands to zero at a touch of the push-piece at “4 o´clock”. The chronograph then restarts immediately from zero. Without a flyback-function, three separate operations – stop/return to zero/start – would be necessary to achieve the same result.
