  • Its OK guys no one will force you to buy these bands. For these companies it is relatively inexpensive to develop a smart band. For them it is well why not? Maybe someone will want one. They are most likely buying off-the-shelf OEM products to tailor and embed into their watch straps. It is the software that makes the big difference. Apple is playing to their usual crowd of sycophants who will buy anything new from Apple. Of course Apple’s software has all the stuff Gen X, Y and Millennals will get off on. But then so does Pebble.

As I have said before it is to augment your smart phone. You don’t have a smart phone? Well neither does Jean-Claude Biver so you are in good company.

  • Guy´s, not sad at all. IWC as some others too have understood that the digital century will not stop at men´s wrists. The automotive industry has succesfully made the change already years before. Nobody would like to get a todays car without any connectivity. And now they are going to replace step by step combust engines by electric motors and nobody will stop that. Regarding watches we have a similar situation and nobody will stop that as well. Watch enthusiasts being able and willing to spend thousands of Euros for a high-mech watch are becoming more rare. Therefore the watch industry has started to reinvent the lower budget segment. But exactly here, the new electronic gadgets from the huge international players are there as well. A tricky and complex situation. Anyway we wish IWC, Montblanc, TAG Heuer, Frederique Constant and all the others being ambitious to come along with new and innovative technology good success.

  • Thanks God the device is embedded in the strap, like a prothesis. ¿Are these the beginnings of the art o watchmaking agony?.I’m very surprise about IWC’s anouncement and very sad too. The mark was one of my favorites. I have a doubt from now.

  • Now the Apple watch is now out, may become the cat killing all swiss mouses with connection to Internet.

  • I consider it as a sign of weakness and lack of pride to just invent “something” to be able to “compete” with Apple Watch. As we all know, the Apple watch is something completely different than a mechanical watch. Why, just by announcement of Apple, do so many of the luxury watch brands suddenly start to create electronic gadgets or add-ons such als IWC does? Honestly: Who would ever do sports with a Big Pilot’s watch on my wrist?

To me, those developments such as by IWC done “under distress” frighten me much more, than the launch of Apple Watch does. They show activism and a complete loss of sense for reality. Very bad sign, to me.
