Omega just launched two Planet Ocean watches to commemorate the Olympic Games in Sochi 2014

Take a closer look at the Seamaster Planet Ocean 45.5 mm Sochi 2014 Limited Edition and the Seamaster Planet Ocean 37.5 mm Sochi 2014 Limited Edition.

It is still a little bit early… 🙂

But, why not launching theses watches already now?

The gents’ watch, the Omega Seamaster Planet Ocean 45.5 mm Sochi 2014 Limited Edition, has a 45.5 mm brushed and polished stainless steel case and a matching bracelet. Its unidirectional rotating diving bezel is fitted with a matt black ceramic ring with a chromium nitride divers’ scale. The white dot at 12 o’clock on the diving bezel is followed by blue- and red-lacquered markers for minutes 1-5 and 6-10, respectively – a tribute to the flag of the Russian Federation. True to the Omega Seamaster Planet Ocean 600M design, minutes 11-16 are also indicated on the bezel in a subtle silvery lacquer. The timepiece has a brushed screw-in caseback embossed with the “Sochi 2014” Olympic logo and engraved with “Si14” and the limited edition number (0001/2014). There is a helium escape valve located at 10 o’clock on the case. The Seamaster is powered by the OMEGA Co-Axial calibre 8500, with the brand’s exclusive Si14 silicon balance spring. Price: 4.890,- Euros including 20 % VAT here in Austria.

The Omega Seamaster Planet Ocean 37.5 mm Sochi 2014 Limited Edition shares the same robust qualities and the professional divers’ features with the model in the gents’ collection but it has some distinguishing highlights that will make it one of the most appealing souvenirs of the Sochi 2014 Olympic Winter Games. The 37.5 mm brushed and polished stainless steel case has a white ceramic unidirectional rotating bezel with a diving scale. As with the gents’ version, the minute markers at 1 through 5 are lacquered in blue while minutes 6 through 10 are lacquered in red.
This timepiece, ideally sized for women, has a brushed screw-in caseback embossed with the “Sochi 2014” Olympic logo and engraved with “Si14” and the limited edition number (0001/2014). There is a helium escape valve located at 10 o’clock on the case. This Seamaster is powered by the Omega Co-Axial calibre 8520, a member of the brand’s family of exclusive Co-Axial movements. Its Si14 silicon balance spring is anti-magnetic and particularly resistant to shock and external disturbance. Price: 4.710,- Euros including 20 VAT here in Austria.

  • A diver’s watch for the winter Olympics – hmm, did not know diving was an Olympic discipline at all, although the weather in Sotchi would probably allow to do so …

I am sorry to say that I don’t understand most brands’ “game” with limited editions, less why consumers fall for it.
