TAG Heuer and Watches of Switzerland have a history that goes back to the year 1987, when the retail company first introduced the Swiss brand to the Australian market. For the recent launch of the new Watches of Switzerland’s eCommerce platform, TAG Heuer reveils the Autavia “Watches of Switzerland Anniversary”. The limited edition of 150 timepieces will be part of the brand’s Heuer Heritage Collection.
Created in 1962, the Autavia – a contraction auf AUTomobile and AVIAtion – was specifically designed for motor car racing. Like the original, the Limited Edition features a 12-hour bidirectional bezel made of black aluminium. It comes in a 42mm steel case and provides water-resistance to 100m. The blue sunray dial sports the original “Heuer” logo as well as three snailed white counters. They include Chronograph minutes at 3 o’clock, a 12-hour counter at 9 o’clock and small seconds at 6 o’clock. An aperture within the small seconds counter displays the date. Beige Super-LumiNova coating on the hands and indices and an AR-coated sapphire crystal provide legibility both day and night.
Inside is the new Heuer 02 Manufacture calibre, offering a power reserve of 80 hours. A sapphire case-back with the Watches of Switzerland logo in the centre showcases the movement’s finish. Limited to 150 pieces only, each case back has the limited edition number engraved. The TAG Heuer Autavia “Watches of Switzerland Anniversary” Limited Edition comes on a stainless steel ‘grains of rice’ bracelet or on a brown calfskin leather strap with contrasting stitching.
The watch retails for 7,800 AUD (~ $5,543) on the steel bracelet and for 7,650 AUD (~ $5,436) on the vintage leather strap. The limited edition is available through the recently launched Watches of Switzerland online store and in their stores in Australia.
