We joined Tag Heuer for the launch of a new Special Edition with Dutch race driver Max Verstappen. This was about all we knew before we headed towards the capital of Holland. Together with Panna world champion Jeand Doest and former football player Regi Blinker they presented the new Max Verstappen Special Edition. Or the ‘TAG Heuer Formula 1 No.33 Max Verstappen 2017 Special Edition’ which is the official name for this watch.
Max Verstappen Special Edition
The TAG Heuer Max Verstappen Special Edition comes in a 43 mm case with bright red sporty perforated rubber strap. The dial and bezel are blue with contrasting red and white details. Focus for the number 33 as this is the starting number of Max Verstappen. He explained that he always used to drive with his lucky number 3 but this one is already in use. Therefore he drives with number 33 which is double the luck as he explained. This number is also engraved on the caseback together with the Red Bull Racing logo. The watch is limited to 533 pieces and it will be available from September 2017. For all the fans out there the watch will be on sale in the Netherlands exclusively.
“I wanted something that is dear to me. Athletes are quite fetishist, and this number 33 is always with me now, on my wrist, with this special edition. It will remind me of my challenges and my performances to always do better. It has been so much fun to do this reveal in my home country!”
Although we would have loved to see Tag Heuer doing a mechanical watch they came up with a quartz version. We think that a mechanical watch would greatly link to motor sports or Formula 1 racing in special. But realising that most fans of Formula 1 (and Max Verstappen in special) are not as much into watches as we are it makes sense somehow. Still it would be great to see a mechanical Max Verstappen Special Edition at some point. The price for this special edition is 1.350 euro which makes it still affordable and in reach for the die hard Max Verstappen and Formula 1 fans who want to have a sporty Tag Heuer watch on their wrist. Otherwise there is a more general F1 collection by Tag Heuer including mechanical watches!
