Nayla Hayek, Chair of the Board of Directors, CEO Harry Winston and Marc Hayek, member of the Executive Group Management Board of Swatch Group are presenting you the new Opus 14

These are even rare moments in my life as a watch journalist working in that industry over 20 years now. Nayla Hayek and Marc Hayek presenting you the newest, ultimate cool and ticking baby of the Swatch Group. It is difficult to get these outstanding and charismatic leaders together for an interview. So once again I am proud to present you something special, an insider story, or simply what you expect me to do for you … 🙂

Harry Winston Opus 14 is an amazing watch invented by Johnny Girardin and Franck Orny. The two independent watch creators approached Harry Winston to do the new Opus watch already before Swatch Group took over Harry Winston. Today their dream came through and the new Opus 14 was officially presented in Baden-Baden Germany. Johnny and Franck do not speak English, so I could not tape an interview also with them for you – sorry.

Whilst Johnny and Franck brought the idea it was the watchmaking power of Swatch Group that made Opus 14 possible. It is in fact the very first Opus watch that functions from the first day on and is ready to be sold. Already this morning a Chinese customer, also invited to join the presentation, bought the first 410.300 Euro watch and took it home.

Now I proudly invite you to listen to our conversation recorded this morning. Nayla Hayek, Chair of the Board of Directors of Swatch Group, CEO Harry Winston and Marc Hayek, member of the Executive Group Management Board will present you Opus 14:

Here are two short videos showing you the cool jukebox function of the Harry Winston Opus 14. You choose what you want to see beside the home time always indicated on the dial. Second zone time (GMT) or the date. The watch will, like a juke box, get the disc an put on display for you. Of course with the correct date and the second zone time you have been choosing before. If you need to adjust the indications you simply use the two pushers on top of the case…

Cool?

YES!!!

Sorry for the bad sound with the first video… Something went wrong whilst recording it with my iPhone. Anyhow you would only have heard music, just like in the second video. Once again my apologies…

  • I thought I read somewhere that one of the purposes of the Opus series was to create watches that display time in an unusual or different way.
The imitation of a jukebox has nothing to do with that concept.
And I do not like the aesthetics of the watch.
Even though it is fair to say that not all the Opus watches are nice or elegant or pretty, at least from the first to the 13th. they were faithfull to the “original” Opus concept.

  • The watch looks like a real optus that may eat the owner alive. My father used to be a fisherman, he used to get them in the net, some of them use poison for killing and had to use special tools to get them back in the sea. In California, they have Optus alive in the restaurants and can have them for your dinner.

    • To compare this watch with an octopus is cute 🙂 It reminds me more of the times when jukeboxes had huge impact on our lives… They were entertaining us, just like the new Opus 14 is doing today…

  • I’m used to admire Harry Winston Opus but on this occasion the aesthetics of this watch is far from satisfactory and away from the great work of watchmakins of Girardin and Orny It gives the impression of being a billionaire child watch and not a masterpiece of watchmaking.

    • Sorry I disagree! This is the first Opus I really like. Cool design and fascinating watchmaking combined in one case. If I could afford the watch I would buy it.

  • Pretty cool. The discs seem to be the proportions of 45 rpm singles which only adds to the juke box feel.

Too bad you can’t have it play your favorite oldie. Maybe for Opus 15? ‘-)

    Ah, the toys of billionaires.
