The new Rado Ceramica – the rebirth of cool by Konstantin Grcic

None other than Konstantin Grcic, one of the world’s leading industrial designer, has redesigned the Rado design icon.

The brands most recognizable high-tech ceramic timepieces has been given a contemporary interpretation while retaining the strong geometric shape that made the original such a classic…

Rado polarizes!

Either you like what the Swatch Group brand is doing, or you don’t.

Rado always was ahead of time.

Rado still is ahead of time.

Rado stands for puristic and straight design.

Rado has no real competition, the brand is so unique that it has its own niche.

By using high-tech ceramics to manufacture cases and bracelets, Rado builds almost indestructible watches that never age.

How difficult therefore it must have been to redesign the Ceramica, the brands iconic watch, you may imagine.

Let me show you the new and old (page 2) Rado Ceramica and I do invite you to read the interview with Konstantin Grcic (page 3) of my report.

Two new gents’ models offer a matt take on the Rado Ceramica, previously best known in its high gloss iteration. Limited to just 701 pieces, Konstantin Grcic’s signature model stands out not only because of its velvety matt finish, but also thanks to the creative use of typography on the dial.

“In my opinion, the matt finish brings out the form of the watch much stronger,” Konstantin Grcic told me. “The design of the dials is bold and legible. I took inspiration from pilot watches – I like them for their straightforward, clear graphics.”

Who is Konstantin Grcic?

Konstantin Grcic is one of the world’s leading industrial designers. He has developed furniture, lighting, accessories and housewares for leading brands, with many of his products receiving prestigious international design awards. Known for his passion for technology and materials, Konstantin Grcic was the first choice for the 2016 redesign of the iconic Rado Ceramica. Famed for his pared-down pieces, Konstantin Grcic is often referred to as a minimalist, but the designer himself prefers to speak of simplicity.
