Ulysse Nardin presents its legendary Perpetual Ludwig in a new execution

This was the first perpetual calendar mechanism that allowed the forward and backward adjustment of all calendar displays over a single crown. Back in 1996 a watchmaking revolution…

In Switzerland for centuries highly sophisticated perpetual calendar timepieces have existed. But there was a sting in the tail.

The adjustment of a perpetual calendar was not easy to do, since it was necessary to know how to use several in the case integrated pushbuttons.

In 1996 things changed.

Ulysse Nardin brought to market the world’s most functional perpetual calendar, created by the master of watch innovation, Ludwig Oechslin.

The Ulysse Nardin timepiece, named the Perpetual Ludwig, marked a major milestone in the watchmaking history. It allowed the forward and backward adjustment of all calendar displays over a single crown, eliminating the need to return the watch to the manufacturer in case of setting mistakes. Unlike the standard lever system, the timepiece revealed the very first perpetual calendar mechanism driven by wheels and gears.

Meanwhile being an icon of sheer watchmaking perfection, the movement has appeared in Ulysse Nardin’s most significant timepieces, including the GMT+/- Perpetual with dual-time function, the mighty El Toro, and now, the Black Toro.

“Industry-wide”, says Ulysse Nardin, “the 2013 launch of the Black Toro represents the best perpetual calendar timepiece developed to date. Stunning in 18-karat rose gold with its black dial and ceramic bezel, it offers the simplest setting capability of the calendar functions.”

The new Black Toro is another representation of Ulysse Nardin’s ability to create technically innovative timepieces of great and individual design, and superior function, precision and ease of use, while continuing the legacy of its most important inventions.

This going to sound so unbelievably petty on my part– but I hate the font they chose for the “12” and “6”. Does anyone else feel this way? Otherwise I love the watch…

I have to agree I they just choose a more settle font I would look better, but this is just my taste. Otherwise stunning.

Ulysee Nardin is one of the most innovative Watch Companies on Earth! Ulysee Nardin Black Toro seems to be fantastic watch with Perpetual Calendar as well as GMT functions! On top of that this watch is a certified chronometer and it also uses Ulysee Nardin’s in-house movement Calibre UN-32!

Thanks a lot for the fine report! Wish there were some more pictures.
