Parmigiani is a brand you don’t spot that much in the wild, at least where we live, and we wonder why. Some of their models are simply spot-on when it comes to design and looks. Especially the timeless and classic looking Tonda 1950 models. These watches have a clean and minimalistic design that will go with many occasions. Besides the great looks they come in the shape of a 40mm case which is just the perfect size in my book. Perhaps the price tag would have kept you away from these watches but there is a solution for that as the Parmigiani Fleurier Tonda 1950 steel versions became available.
Tonda 1950 Steel
Both the great design and use of an ultra-thin in-house movement with micro rotor makes the Tonda 1950 the best selling model of the Parmigiani collection. Having multiple production facilities at their disposal, Parmigiani Fleurier is able to make pretty much all of the watch parts under their own roof which allows them total control over the proces and the high quality.
Having the watch available in a steel version it becomes in reach for a wider audience. Apart from the change in the case material the dimensions have been slightly enlarged from 39 to 40mm. Having a sapphire crystal both on the front and back gives you full visual acces to the watch. Where the front is clean and functional, through the open case-back you can admire the manufacture movement. The PF702movement is finished by hand and features the well known ‘Côtes de Genève’ decoration as well a highly decorated micro-rotor with PF logo. To keep it going the movement comes with a 48-hour power reserve.
With the Tonda 1950 steel version, Parmigiani Fleurier extends their best-selling model into affordable categories. There is a significant market for watches under the 10K price point. Having an in-house movement makes this timepiece an interesting choice compared to many other watches out there.
