As afollow-up to my two posts about watches & 24 Hours of Le Mans I want to show you some pictures saying more than 1000 words… Click on “read more” to see my report …
First of all congratulations to Porsche to win its 17th 24 Hours of Le Mans race. After a clear dominance of Audi during the last years Le Mans now has a new winner: Porsche Motorsport.
After some years of abstinence Porsche came back to Le Mans last year but did not win the race. Audi did. Porsche came back again this year and at 15:00 CET won the 24 Hours of Le Mans.
Once again: Congratulations!
If you have been reading my two articles about 24 Hours of Le Mans and the active engagement of Swiss watch manufacturers with some leading teams you might have been following the race like I did the last 24 hours.
Now, after the show is over, I want to show you some pictures that will impress you.
I simply took some screenshots with my iPad during the last minutes of the race and then during the price giving ceremony. What one could see was simply stunning. It was all about Rolex and Rolex and Rolex…
Yes, Chopard is the Official Timing Partner of Porsche Motorsport and yes one could see the logo on the mirrors of the Porsche cars driving on the circuit, but for sure most of the TV-spectators this afternoon saw the price giving ceremony and almost everyone at the circuit went there after the race.
These are the emotional moments people want to see… Winners, winners and nothing else then winners… And everywhere you looked you saw Rolex, Rolex and Rolex.
The most frustrating moment for any team watch sponsor must be the moment when the winning team gets their specially 24 Hours of Le Mans engraved steel Rolex Cosmograph Daytona chronographs directly from Rolex France CEO Philippe Schaeffer.
Today we saw the drivers of the winning Porsche Motorsport team wearing their Chopard watches and then getting the It-Watch everyone wants to have …

This time, you will permit me Alex, I tend to disagree.
No doubt, events like this will always need and find a sponsor. Well done Rolex since their brand presence was everywhere. Sponsoring an event means that you will always celebrate whoever performed best.
However, as the event, the team needs sponsors too. The difference is, that only one team can win. For a potential sponsor, this might take a much more dedicated decision for one team.
For me, the Porsche team is the winner, which includes Chopard, DMG Mori and all the others.
Arguing success by marketing presences: The last hours of the race, when TV showed the Porsche box and crew mainly, there was always a Chopard logo and always a Chopard watch to see.
Next to the smile of the Rolex CEO, I also noted smiling by the Porsche team when looking at their watch-price. Everybody had his reasons I believe.
Best regards,
