Chiara Luzzana was born 1980 in Italy. Her artistic focus is music, she is a sound artist and music composer. But she is not a “normal” music composer, Chiara Luzzana records sounds in the streets, in factories, simply at unusual places and then uses these sounds to compose music.
This is exactly what she did together with Swatch. She recorded the ticking sound and every single gear, with the help of special microphones built by herself. The hands of a Swatch have become the electric guitars. The worker’s gloves have become a harp, other rhythmic and melodic parts were created by the recordings of factory machineries in Boncourt in the Swiss Jura where the Swatch Sistem51 is built.
“60 Bpm – The sound of Swatch” is the title of the music that has become the … Official soundtrack of Swatch and the Arsenale Pavilion at Venice Biennale 2015 …
Chiara Luzzana also created a sound installation with the sounds of the soundtrack and a video documentary about the creative processes.
You have no time to visit the Biennale in Venice? No problem!

Chiara what is your favorite occupation?
I like listening to the silence and imagining a sound that describes it… and then create it.
Your idea of happiness?
A perfect balance between what you want to have, and what you have.
If not yourself, who would you be?
I would like to be a man. Maybe everything would be less “paranoid” and complicated. 😉
Your hero in real life?
What do you hate the most?
Your present state of mind?
I am a very passionate person. I approach everything as if there was no tomorrow.
“I’m a visual listener: all I can see, it can be heard.”
Cool or not cool? Let me know what you think… 🙂
