To celebrate the 50th anniversary of Goldfinger, this online charity auction featured a golden selection of unique and iconic James Bond memorabilia sold to benefit the National Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children (NSPCC).
James Bond and Omega team up in every 007 film since GoldenEye in 1995.
One single word was on the minds of Omega´s designers when they were given the chance to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Goldfinger: GOLD!
To honour one of the world’s favourite movies, Omega has created a one-of-a-kind Seamaster Aqua Terra in an explosion of 18 carat yellow gold.
This very special timepiece sold for 70,000 GBP/106,000 CHF on Wednesday 17 September as part of an online auction that celebrated the renowned James Bond film. The winning bid was nearly eight times the estimated value of the watch!
With this outstanding result, this Omega Seamaster Aqua Terra is considered to be the most successful item in this online auction and it was the only item to make such a drastic jump from its published estimated price to its final price. The watch was sold with other unique memorabilia to benefit the National Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children (NSPCC).
The words engraved on the 18 carat yellow gold ring around the transparent case back tell the story:
GOLDFINGER, 50TH ANNIVERSARY, UNIQUE PIECE, ANTI-MAGNETIC, > 15,000 GAUSS.
Omega´s Seamaster Aqua Terra has a discreet 38.5 mm 18K yellow gold case and is presented on a matching bracelet. The dial has also been created from 18 carat yellow gold. The 18 carat yellow gold hands are coated with Super-LumiNova, making them legible in all lighting conditions. In a subtle nod to the world’s most celebrated secret agent, there is a counterweight (in 18 carat yellow gold of course!) on the central seconds hand crafted in the form of the iconic 007-logo. The timepiece is powered by the Omega Master Co-Axial calibre 8501 revealed through its transparent crystal case back. The one that equips this Seamaster Aqua Terra features an 18 carat yellow gold rotor and bridge, distinguishing it from the 18 carat red gold normally associated with the movement. The oscillating weight is also made of 18 carat yellow gold. The mechanical movement delivers best timekeeping performance and reliability and it is also resistant to magnetic fields greater than 15,000 gauss, solving a challenge that has perplexed watchmakers for centuries.
The remarkable 18 carat gold Omega Seamaster Aqua Terra watch celebrating the 50th anniversary of Goldfinger is delivered in a special presentation box whose design was inspired by the U.S. Bullion Depository building at Fort Knox.
What flashy watch guys, I would never want to wear it. But the Christie´s result is stunning and the fact that Omega helped the National Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children (NSPCC) is just great.
