Best design, best replica, best skeleton … My favorite watches 2013

Tastes differ – I know. Please discover my top ten watches in terms of design, the three best replicas and the in my eyes best skeleton watch of the year 2013.

Welcome back!

In analogy to my yesterday’s presentation this is of course NOT a ranking since the presentations are done in alphabetic order.

And, as already mentioned above… Tastes differ! So guys I don´t mind if you disagree with my selection. Nevertheless please let me know what you think.

Best design … My top ten watches 2013

Baume & Mercier Clifton

The Clifton literally acted as a turbo boost for Baume & Mercier the sell-out was and is incredible. Of course it´s the design of the watch that pleases. In my eyes the design is simply perfect!

Breitling Navitimer Cosmonaute Blacksteel

The all-black, “Blacksteel” version of the Breitling Cosmonaute that wrote watch-history in the year 1962 is just stunningly beautiful.

Cartier Rotonde de Cartier Mysterieuse

Reproducing those famous mysterious Cartier table clocks for the wrist was not an easy task. The way the Cartier design team did it fascinates me. I simply like this watch. It’s clearly recognizable as a Cartier.

Frédérique Constant Slimline Moonphase Manufacture

Of course this deign is not new and of course it´s a copy of a watch we have seen before, but everyone could have done it, since the classical design is not protected. This Frédérique Constant is a perfect classic and afordable watch of the present.

Hublot Classic Fusion Classico Ultra-Thin King Gold Black Shiny Dial

Something completely new for Hublot: an extra-thin watch, a Classic Fusion whose design has been refined, while retaining the dynamic and modern codes immediately recognizable as Hublot.

Jaeger-LeCoultre Master Ultra Thin 41mm

So thin, so beautiful, so classical… A Jaeger-LeCoultre, once you tried it on your wrist, you simply want to possess. For me the perfect mix in terms of size and thinness.

Nomos Lambda

This new and refined Nomos-design is making its way. After all theses years of not changing anything in terms of design Nomos was courageous and it pays off. I am sure several declinations will follow.

Panerai Radiomir 1940 3 Days – 47mm Paneristi Forever

The PAM532 is the perfect mix for the Paneristi. It´s a typical Panerai, has all the DNA its needs, without wanting to be a martial object on the wrist. I couldn´t have done it better 🙂

Rado HyperChrome Court

A bravura piece from Rado illustrating that not all the brands watches necessary need to win an international design price. This is not more and not less than good mainstream design that simply pleases.

Tissot T Complication Squelette

I can hear you call out: Is Alexander crazy now?

No I am not!

Guys, please enlarge the picture and have a closer look. Gorgeous! That Tissot is a modern interpretation of the theme skeleton watch that turned out well for an incredible competitive price.

  • I could look at that Nomos all day long and not be bored for a second.
    Great choices…boy if i had a few quid…

  • Thank you for your interessting choice, dear Alexander. The Nomos is great, the JLC too, clean and perfect. But the Omega Bullhead? It was then ugly and – IMHO – in the new version it is still today. At the place of the totally overloaded Breitling chrono I would have placed the exquisit Omega chrono “The dark side of the Moon”. All the best from Basel.

  • The Nomos Lambda makes all the others look tawdry and cheap.
Simplicity with elegance is what turns me on for an everyday watch.
Of course the complicated and lovely Breitling is good for the day of sporty and dangerous activity. Happy New Year all you lovers of this peculiar art form.

  • Thanks for a selection that is in range of the normal wallet. They are nice choices at price points that do not require a second morgage on the house. Refreshing change from watches that cost and arm, a leg and a few other pieces of anatomy.

  • Though I do not agree with some of your selections, I do not want to get into an argument on the last day of 2013.

Happy New Year to you, your loved ones and all the watch-lovers of the world as well as their loved ones!!!

  • I agree about the Tissot. I’m not usually a fan of skeleton watches but this one is pretty nice. Also the Vulcain is kinda cool.
