Rare and unique: Johann Rupert, the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Compagnie Financière Richemont SA, talks about A. Lange & Söhne, to the employees of A. Lange & Söhne and about Günter Blümlein.

Richemont Chairman Johann Rupert talking to us.

I invite you to see three rare and unique videos recorded last week in Glashütte in Saxony when the German Chancellor Angela Merkel inaugurated the new manufactory building.

It is very difficult to see and meet Johann Rupert. In fact it is almost impossible! The Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Compagnie Financière Richemont SA attended the opening the new A. Lange & Söhne manufactory building last week in Glashütte in Saxony / Germany. It was a great day for A. Lange & Söhne, for its CEO Wilhelm Schmid and of course for Johann Rupert who came with his son Anton.

After the German Chancellor Angela Merkel left some colleagues and I started a discussion with Johann Rupert. We talked about politics, hunting in South Africa, the lion Cecil who was recently shot by an American dentist, about the endangered species of rhinoceros and of course about A. Lange & Söhne …

I invite you to see and hear the big, big boss and majority owner of Richemont.

What I have here really is rare and unique …

  • Really terrific footage, as always! Thank you. Mr Rupert has a special understanding of the businesses he helms.

  • I watched your video of this smart thinking man,, his speed was impressive. Recently, I have been in Lange butique in Singapore and Dubaii, their watches are a piece of German mechanical art and must taken hundred of hours to put the puzzle together. iI have a collection of all German and Swiss brand catalogue, the Lange one is impressive. When you have a Lange watch in hand, you have the best of best, iif you compare with Paek, Lange will be in top division and Patek in the bottom.

  • Alexander, I am impressed. Yet I could not believe what I saw and heard. I wish to pay my respect to Johann Rupert. This man is a charismatic chairman!

  • Congratulations for great reporting. Keep it up! You are doing a great job. Greetings and best wishes from somebody who knew Guenter Bluemlein . Moritz Elsaesser ,Watchmaker and membre de jury de GPHG .

    • I knew Günter Blümlein well and together with him I passed some of the most remarkable moments of my life so far …

I got goose bumps while recording Johann Rupert…

  • I have watched each of these videos two times. And I am still worried. Worried because what I saw does not match what I had expected.

What I had expected was a business man interested in numbers only. Someone who is interested in rising profit and for whom luxury watches are just one of his many sources of income.

But what I saw in these videos is a man who not only cherishes the products created by the companies in his group but who deeply appreciates the humans who are involved in creating these products. A man who seriously recognises the context in which these humans perform their work.

    Chapeau, Mr. Rupert!
