Before I turned 10 years old we had a Commodore 64 at home which helped me spend a lot of time playing all kinds of games through the years. So every time we meet up with Romain Jerome they put a smile on our faces for bringing back those memories with their game inspired watches. Once again RJ-Romain Jerome and The Pokémon Company International have teamed up to release a unique timepiece of which only 1 piece will be made. After their previous cooperation the chance to capture them all.
Romain Jerome has mastered the art of combining contemporary subjects with traditional watchmaking. In this spirit they present their first complication within the Generational Icons collection, the Romain Jerome Tourbillon Pokémon. The perfect alchemy between a prestigious horological complication and the emblem of the millennials is combined in this one-piece unique edition.
Highlight of the timepiece is de definitely the colourful dial which stands out from the all-black 48mm case and hands. Showing numerous Pokémon characters with the most important one, Pikachu, at the 12 o’clock position. Furthermore the black alligator strap is finished with yellow and blue stitching. These colours resemble the symbolic yellow and blue as used in the official Pokémon logo.
This concentration and accumulation of characters in different sizes yields an incredible and captivating 3D effect, such that the characters look animated and ready to pop out at any second. As the most famous of them all, Pikachu is the centrepiece and is placed at the forefront. To complete the Pokémon scene, the tourbillon bridge is shaped like a lightning bolt, one of the key elements of Pikachu.
High level of craftsmanship
Beyond the aesthetic aspect and the subjects portrayed on the dial, which already makes it unique, the Romain Jerome Tourbillon Pokémon unique piece is an exceptional timepiece thanks to its high level of craftsmanship. The dial which is entirely made by hand required hundreds of hours to create. This due to the numerous colours which needed to be created and that are hand-filled one by one. Through the case back you can admire the oscillating weight of the self-winding movement which is laser-shaped like a lightning bolt and shows the Pikachu character seen from the back.
