Baume & Mercier’s new Clifton Baumatic: Enhanced accuracy and power reserve

The new Clifton Baumatic from Baume & Mercier with the maison’s first in-house mechanical self-winding calibre, the Baumatic™ BM12-1975A, is pushing back the existing limits of efficiency and reliability: The BM12-1975A not only comes with a convenient five-day power reserve with full chronometer precision (-4/+6 seconds per day over the entire 120 hour power reserve), it also offers better protection against magnetic fields in everyday life and use, as well as considerably longer intervals between services.

Baume & Mercier’s Clifton Baumatic is enhancing the user experience in four key areas:

#1: More autonomy with five-day power reserve
#2: Enhanced accuracy performance
#3: Resistance to magnetic fields
#4: Great durability

The challenge:

Mechanical watches are not always accurate, especially when their power reserve runs low. A basic mechanical watch, for example, requires regular time setting, given its daily variation in rate of around 10 to 30 seconds per day. Additionally, the power reserve usually ranges from 40 to 70 hours.

The response:

The Clifton Baumatic’s new movement offers significantly enhanced accuracy: The new hairspring features Twinspir technology (a composite structure, combining two cores of silicon, alternately set at a 45° angle). Combined with a newly designed variable-inertia balance wheel, the automatic movement offers improved accuracy in various positions and greater resistance to impacts and magnetic fields.

Additionally, the new movement features a high-performance escapement equipped with Powerscape technology, and an optimized layout. It improves torque transmission, reduces friction and thus offers 30% higher autonomy. In short, the BM12-1975A has a convenient five-day power reserve with full chronometer precision (-4/+6 seconds per day over the entire 120 hour power reserve). In other words: the Baumatic can easily be taken off and worn again after a ling weekend.

The five different versions of the new Clifton Baumatic are available from September 2018 on, with prices starting at $2,750. To learn more about the collection, visit:
